I again saw one of my chiropractors today--the one who uses acupuncture treatments on me--and his work did allow some fairly good early evening/early night sleep, but I'm again wakeful. BOTHER.....!!! Please continue to keep me in prayer about this, as well as in having really GOOD priorities for how to manage demands on time/energy in the week ahead.
At the moment, in addition to the wedding, I'm wanting to do some practical "outreach" by way of offering some cookies etc. for my former priest, whose step-mother died Thursday afternoon. This was a late re-marriage for his dad---only five years ago---so I'm guessing that Fr. D. and this woman weren't really close, BUT, it IS part of his family picture, so I wanted to help if I could.
In any case, I put together a "CareNotes" sampler for the critically ill for him after hearing the news about this, mentioned in the University forum in which he was a panel member earlier in the day on Thursday. Delivered to his house yesterday a.m.---after some "interesting" meandering around in an unfamiliar part of town!---I was going to leave the packet on their car, but his wife came out and so I got the update that way.
THEN, we decided that it would be best if I took the packet to move on elsewhere AND, since I also had been intending to do some "outreach" for the former receptionist of my massage therapist who is now in hospice care through a hospital here, I drove on to deliver that. So....mission accomplished there, and I'm glad I was able to do that....HOWEVER....the hospital setting has changed MUCH since I was last there and their new parking garage, attached to the hospital means that you are forced to do MUCH walking to get into the main hospital area. THEN I needed to explain my "mission" to a couple of people in the office there, who in turn needed to make a phone call to see how to handle an unusual situation.....SO.....
Suffice it to say that I was VERY tired and very glad to get home yesterday morning and that kind of shot "other" plans for the day! Shades of Thomas Merton's "My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going...."--- LITERALLY!!! ;)
I did get the cookie dough made up that I was already planning to bake for the Open House at the church before the wedding and will try to get those baked today. Since I made a triple-batch of dough, I'm assuming that we can easily spare some for the grieving family, in addition to having some for my son, etc. My husband also did some grocery shopping for us, so I also have lasagna ingredients, looking toward sharing some with my son's new in-laws with whom he'll be staying this week.
So....with kitchen duties as well as some gardening projects to finish up so I can make our front porch more presentable, I really have a potentially busy day ahead, so must get some rest....SOMEHOW!!! My husband is working this weekend, so that means more of a juggling act for me too, though it was VERY helpful to have him have his "comp" time on Friday when we needed to do some extra errands.
Our son arrives Saturday night---late---and his bride will get him at the airport. Hard to believe that that is now "today" when he'll get here, though at the end of "this" day!
In any case, I had e-mailed him/them an invitation to come to church with us this Sunday and he called late Friday to say he thought that might be possible. As I told him, though we'd certainly understand if they couldn't come, as I saw it, it would be an opportunity to "re-connect" to this church community in which he will be married AND, this might well be the last opportunity we have for QUITE some time to be in church together. I doubt very much that they'll be able to come home for Christmas this year, for example.
Sooooooo......if that works out, I will be grateful. Your prayers appreciated for this!!
Part of the problem with this situation is that it seems that the bride is not only "un-churched" but fairly much ANTI-church, so we've had to be VERY gentle in terms of INVITING but not "insisting" on any kind of our own expectations about what our son will be able to do in terms of OUR "traditions." He's not been regular in attendance either for some time and I have NO idea where he is on his "faith journey" either...but at least he still seems WILLING to go with us AND had attended church when he was in boot camp at least.
Well....enough and more than enough and thanks for "listening" and for your prayers as able.
Will be in touch here when I can, and, as always, will be thinking of you too and keeping you in prayer.
