Groups: There are currently more than 750 groups in the US and in 13 different countries. Some groups are specific for a single issue but most groups have participanats with multiple issues. Use of a common group format is strongly encouraged. Family members are also welcome at OO meetings. Group List
History: The first Overcomers Outreach meeting was started in 1977 in Whittier, CA. The official launching of Overcomers Outreach as a ministry took place in 1985. In addition to traditional open Twelve Step groups, materials are available for groups for adolescents, adult children of alcoholics, children and prisoners. Overcomers Outreach has a 24 hour help-line (800-310-3001) for people looking for Christian support groups or for referrals to treatment facilities, Christian counselors or recovery-friendly churches.
Attitude toward AA and other 12 Step groups: Overcomers Outreach is a bridge between traditional Twelve Step programs and the church. People who are searching for their Higher Power need Jesus. Christians in denial about their addictions, compulsions and codependency need Twelve Step recovery programs. Overcomers Outreach groups are not "Christian AA meetings" but a supplementeary program to traditional Twelve Step programs. Overcomers Outreach uses the 12 Steps of AA without revision.
Events: Overcomers Outreach has several regional conferences each year as well as an International Conference.
